Meet Ron

Picture
Ron Moeller is the only son of German immigrants who came to the United States in the aftermath of WWII. Both raised Ron with a strong sense of duty, patriotism, and honor. After moving around the country for several years, Ron and his family settled in the Portland, Oregon metro area where Ron graduated high school, earned his Eagle Scout award, and developed a great sense of appreciation for the outdoors.

After high school, Ron enlisted in the US Air Force and was the honor graduate of his Intelligence Specialist course. He served in a variety of assignments during his 11-year military career while also completing college. Ron has four degrees - two Associate degrees, a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, and a Master of Arts in International Relations. After his honorable discharge, Ron immediately went to work for the federal government as a civilian intelligence officer.

When 9/11 occurred, Ron was with the Central Intelligence Agency serving as a Paramilitary Operations Officer. From then until his retirement in 2013, Ron deployed 12 times to Afghanistan, three to Iraq, once to Pakistan, and numerous other locations throughout the globe. Ron was honored with numerous awards throughout his career but his most memorable award was the US Army's Combat Action Badge (rarely awarded to a civilian) for actions during a firefight in January 2007 at the Korengal Outpost in Afghanistan.

After retirement, Ron and his wife Gabrielle settled for a short bit on the Idaho side of Jackson Hole. But after three years that saw his property taxes double, they decided to sell everything and become full-time RVers. The next three years they spent traveling the country – ranging from the Rio Grande river in Texas to the Outer Banks of North Carolina to the Pacific coast, and north past the Arctic Circle. This personal expedition around America renewed their deep appreciation for our country and its freedoms.

Throughout these travels, Ron and Gabi kept looking for a place to settle down. Crisscrossing the country always seemed to take them through the Black Hills of South Dakota. This was the place that reached out to them and beckoned them. They now reside in their home overlooking Lead and the Black Hills.

Ron has dedicated his life to service to the nation and others. His wife Gabrielle is a retired career Army officer with 23 years of service. Their daughter is a Corpsman with the US Navy Reserve, their son-in-law is in Navy Special Warfare, and their son is a paratrooper with the storied 82nd Airborne Division.

Ron was looking forward to a quiet, uneventful retirement working on his memoirs, however, he couldn’t sit still given the events that unfolded during the past five years. The call to serve has once again sounded… and Ron is answering it by declaring his intention to seek the South Dakota State Senate seat for District 31 (Lawrence County).

An America First GOP candidate who’s not beholden to special interests or pressure groups, Ron is an unabashed patriot whose “street smarts”, critical thinking, and strategies have been repeatedly tested on the field of battle.

Ron desires nothing more than to serve his fellow South Dakotans by holding the line for our state sovereignty and family values while pushing back against the onslaught against our Republic by those who wish to forever change America into something none of us would recognize.

Ron's Guiding Values

• The best government is one that's closest to the people... and therefore the government should not interfere in our daily lives;
• The strength of our nation lies within the individuals who live here... therefore I feel individual freedom, dignity, and responsibility must come first and foremost;
• Free enterprise and the fostering individual initiative have brought America its economic prosperity - they must be allowed to flourish to preserve that prosperity for today... and to assure its future for our children;
• The government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow its people to keep the money they work for.
